MARY ELLEN HALTER STRICKER, age 101, of rural Charleston, died Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the Bertrand Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born October 21, 1919, in Mississippi County, MO, to the late Michael Henry Halter and Mary Ethel Carlisle Halter. A life long member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, she attended St. Henry Grade School and graduated from St. Henry High School. She was a long-time member of the Daughters of Isabella and the St. Henry Women’s Quilting Club.
On June 10, 1942, she married Paul Harness Stricker, who preceded her in death on January 29, 1996.
She is survived by her children, Joseph (Catherine Showmaker) Stricker of Las Vegas, NV; Barbara (the late Stephen) Hague of Jefferson City; Joann (the late Charles) Padgett of Elsinore; her daughter in law, Mary Ann (wife of late son Marion Michael) Stricker; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, parents, son and sons in law, she was preceded in death by one great granddaughter and her brothers and sisters, Charles, Paul, Ivo, Vincent, Martin, Norbert, Linus, Louise, Cecilia, Marcella, Angie and Rose.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time for funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2021, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston with the pastor, Father David Dohogne, as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to St. Henry Catholic School in Charleston; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at Memphis, TN or to the Shriners Children Hospital in St. Louis.
