George was born c. 1742. He was living in Tinicum, Bucks County, PA when he was appointed one of two executors for his father's estate when he died intestate. His younger brother Jacob chose George as guardian on 14 March 1768. However, when George was likely to prove insolvent, eldest brother John was requested to be guardian on 12 Dec 1768.

George first married Kunigunda Franck at the same church on 27 Sept 1759. However, there are no records for the death of Kunigunda, George's subsequent marriage to Maria Elizabeth Stout, nor the baptism of children born before 1767, i.e. George Jr.

Some time after the birth of Sarah Magdalene, George and his brother Jacob moved to Rye Township, Cumberland County, PA where he had two land warrants purchased in 1774 and 1775. The last Rye tax roll on which he is listed is 1793. His son John also appears on this list. In 1799, the first time legislation provided for the collection of taxes on real estate and personal property in the state of New York, he appeared on the tax rolls for Catharine, Tioga County, New York. His brother Jacob followed him to New York and settled nearby in Dix.
