Mrs. Catherine "Patsy" McKenzie Calloway was born June 2, 1941. Her loving parents were the late Reverend Will and Mrs. Bera McKenzie of Vincent, AL. Patsy joined the Coosa Valley Baptist Church at an early age under the pastorage of the late Reverend P.E. Kidd, and served there until her move to Atlanta, GA. While in Atlanta, she united with the Green Forest Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Dr. George McCaleph. On her return to Alabama, she re-united with her home church, Coosa Valley, now under the pastorage of Reverend W.J. Posey. Catherine was educated at Vincent Elementary School and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School, Childersburg, AL in May 1958. She received her B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from Alabama A & M University in Normal, AL. Patsy completed further studies at Fort Valley State University, Fort Valley, GA and Samford University in Birmingham, AL where she was a Beason Scholar. Mrs. Calloway taught school in Macon, GA for several years; later, she returned to Alabama and was employed with the Sylacauga City School System until her retirement in May 1996. After her retirement in Sylacauga, Catherine moved to Atlanta, GA to be near her grandchildren. She accepted employment with the Cobb County School System as a teacher of orthopedic impaired students. When it came to fashion and finding unique gifts, Patsy had exquisite taste. She credited her mother and her Home Economics teacher, Mrs. Vivian M. McCann, for instilling in her, values of style-consciousness. Her taste in clothing was exceptional and un-matched; she was always impeccably groomed and she dressed her children, and those children by heart, in the same manner. Catherine was a member of the Tuesday Morning Bible Study Class in Talladega, AL, the National Education Association, the Talladega County Chapter of the Alabama Education Retirees Association, and the Talladega County Alumni Chapter of Alabama A & M University. The flickering spark of her faith was ignited into a full flame of everlasting assurance and she entered her eternal life on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at her residence in Talladega, AL. Catherine leaves to cherish her memory, a loving son, Kevin Wayne McKenzie, Talladega; two lovely granddaughters, Denishia Echols and Zsaquera Echols, Atlanta, GA; a special grandson, Marcell McKenzie, Birmingham; one niece, Maxine McKenzie Rogers (Willie Lee), Vincent; sisters-in-law, Ruth M.
