Major Michael “Mike” Paul Milburn, USMC, Retired of Austin, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at the age of 47.

He was born on August 20, 1973 in Austin, TX to parents Thomas “Tom” Carlisle and Linda “Kay” (James) Milburn.

Mike grew up in the Round Rock area, where he was active in baseball through high school.

He was a good, loyal and fun friend and maintained many of his friendships from childhood and adolescence to this day.

Some might say Mike’s biggest accomplishments in high school were his fishing and hunting adventures--both activities he always loved and brought him peace.

Major Milburn joined the United States Marine Corp right after graduating from Round Rock High School in 1991. In 1995, he entered the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) to become an officer, earned his college degree from The University of Oklahoma, and was commissioned in May 1999. He proudly served our country in three tours of duty: Afghanistan and Pakistan in 2003; Iraq in 2005; and Iraq in 2006. He earned many honors and awards in courage and leadership throughout his career, including the Bronze Star Medal, the fourth-highest ranking award a service member can receive for a heroic and meritorious deed performed in an armed conflict. He was an expert rifleman, a respected mentor and colleague, and he loved being a United States Marine.

Mike married his wife, Debbie S. (McGregor) Milburn on July 4, 2012. They shared a deep love that everyone around them could see and feel. They enjoyed time with family and friends, always laughing and loving big. Mike was a tender soul. He was most proud of all his children and loved them beyond comparison. He had a fierce and loyal bond with his sisters. He loved animals and nature, from his very first “Baby Kitty” to his princess lab “Sherpa” that he and Debbie shared.

Mike is survived by his wife, Debbie; their children, Nicholas Milburn, Morgan Milburn, Gabby Milburn, Caitlyn Smith and her husband, Chris and their daughter, Reagan, and Tierney Denning; his father, Tom Milburn and step-mother, Jan Milburn; his bonus ‘momma’, Linda Martin (Debbie’s mother); his sisters, Susan (Milburn) Rice and her husband, Robert and their children Eric and Emily, and his sister, Katie (Milburn) Howard and her children Hannah and Devin.

He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Linda “Kay” (James) Milburn and grandparents I.B. “Chip” James, Wava Ruth James, Col. Earl B. Milburn and Molly Merle Milburn.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, December 19th at 1 pm at Palm Valley Lutheran Cemetery 2500 E Palm Valley Blvd, Round Rock, TX 78665. Mr. Randall Jones will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Major Michael “Mike” Paul Milburn, USMC, Retired to The Wounded Warrior Project. https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/
