The average person speaks about 7,000 words per day. Here are a few: hardworking, kind, dedicated, witty, handsome, loving, faithful. Ordinary words until they are used to describe an extraordinary man.

Daniel Joseph Almquist passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 peacefully at home with his wife and family by his side.

Dan was born on February 12, 1979 in Waconia, MN to Richard and Mary Almquist (Liemandt). Dan spent his childhood helping on the family farm, hunting, trapping gophers, woodworking with his dad and pranking his siblings. He was motivated from a young age and did all his schooling at home, earning his high school diploma in 1998.

After graduating, Dan moved to Bertha and began his career in construction, working for local contractors. His hard work and dedication paid off, and he was able to start his own construction business in 2013, later employing his brother, Patrick, to work alongside him.

Dan's handsome face and witty humor captured the attention of JacyRea (Desotell) one Saturday night, and three years later they were married on July 30, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clarissa. They resided in Bertha where Dan was a dedicated volunteer fire fighter. He became a loving father to Owen (7) in 2013. Dan's dream of living in the country came true when the family moved to their rural home near Verndale. In 2018, they welcomed Iyla (2) into their lives, completing their family.

In February 2020, Dan was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. He remained faithful and trusted God through surgeries and treatments. His strength and courage remain an inspiration to all.

Dan will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his kind and loving heart; always thinking of others, the hard work he has done; leaving his hand print in many homes in the area, his witty "Dan jokes", his handsome smile, and his everlasting faithfulness to God.

Daniel is preceded in death by grandparents, Albert Almquist [FAG 275717], and Jack and Leone Liemandt [FAG 173778188 and 173778388].

Daniel is survived by his wife JacyRea; children Owen and Iyla; parents Richard (Ann) Almquist and Mary Liemandt; grandmother Em Almquist; father and mother-in-law Reaume and Beverly Desotell; siblings Katie (Chad) Landmann, Laura (Ben) Andersen, Elizabeth (Mike) Quance, Christine (Luke) Vaneps, Rebecca (Mike) Fitzlaff, Martha (Matt) Weber, Patrick Almquist, Matthew, Helena, and Tanner Almquist; sisters-in-law Abby (Jason) Burg and Kaylee Desotell; and 23 nieces and nephews.
