"Ron" as he was affectionately called by family and friends was raised in Beckley, West Virginia and relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana in the early 60's. He enlisted in the United States Army on August 3, 1956 and he received an honorable discharge on December 29, 1965.
Ron was employed at NIPSCO and retired in 1997 after thirty plus years of dedicated service. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 148 and VFW. He enjoyed coaching youth basketball. He also enjoyed bowling and playing pool.
Ronald leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, Ronald (Rene) Hughes, Accosta "Dean" Hughes and De Rondrian Hughes; seven daughters, Anges Stewart, Kim Wattley, Jodi Hughes, Rhonda (Stacey) Byrd, Thyra Banks, Letha Hughes and Tiana Hughes; three brothers, William (Ann) Hughes of Fort Wayne, Donald Hughes of Shreveport, LA and Walter Hughes of Beckley, WV; two sisters, Anna Lovett of Lansing, MI and Kay Moats of Spring Lake, NC; a very special son-in-law, Mike Banks; special friends, Paul and Pat Rowe; 28 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Hughes; parents Samuel Walter Bell and Louise Hughes; brothers, Thomas Hughes, Porter Hughes, Eugene Hughes and Frank Hughes.
