Wanda Merle “Christine” West, 81, went home to be with the Lord January 22, 2021 in DeRidder LA. She was born to Russell and Nona Mae Deason James on April 8, 1939 in Cravens, LA.

Visitation for Merle will begin Tuesday, January 26, 2021, from 11:00 AM until Funeral Service begins at 12:00 PM, at First Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA with Rev. Tim Patrick, Pastor of Marlow Baptist Church and Rev. Hardy Estes, Pastor of Palestine Baptist Church officiating the service. Interment will follow at Marlow Cemetery, Pitkin, LA. Funeral arrangements under the direction and care of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.

Merle West was a woman that was dedicated to the Lord, her husband and her family. Merle married the love of her life July 14th, 1957. His service to his country brought Merle and their six children to many military posts throughout the US and the world. After their years of service to the country, they moved back to Rosepine LA and shared their love of the Lord and family with the community. Merle was a dedicated member and secretary of Marlow Baptist Church. She worked for Cox Cable TV and retired as a manager. She was a loving wife to her husband, a loving mother to her children and an amazing grandmother to her grandkids. Everybody that knew her, especially her grandbabies, called her Maw-Maw and made everybody feel like they where special to her.

Left to cherish her memory is daughter Patricia Nicholson and husband Nicholas Nicholson, daughter Barbara Fletcher and husband Danny Fletcher, daughter Diane Hyatt and husband Gary Hyatt, son Russell West and wife Stephanie West, daughter Jan Rouleau and husband Louis Rouleau, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, her surviving siblings Larry James, Rusty James, Harold James, Betty Presley, Glen James, Rosie Blankenbaker and a host of nieces and nephews.

Merle will be remembered for her great love for her husband and her children. She and her husband Lee wanted nothing more than to share the love of God with others and for their family and friends to come to know Him as their Lord and Savior. Merle is greeted in heaven by her husband Lee West, daughter Courtney West, her mother Nona Mae James and her father Russell James.
