Hall of Fame Professional Hockey Player, Coach. For twenty-one seasons (1949 to 1950 and 1951 to 1971), he played at the right-wing position in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs. During the course of his career, he captained four Stanley Cup title winners (1962 to 1964 and 1967 Maple Leafs) and was a seven-time NHL all star. His career on the ice began with the Cooper Cliff Jr. Redmen of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (1946-1947). In 1,188 career regular season games, he compiled 296 goals with 417 assists. Following his retirement as a player, he remained in the sport and served as head coach of the Toronto Marlboros and guided them to two Memorial Cup titles (1973 and 1975). He moved on to the Quebec Nordiques where he served as a scout and in 1988, he returned to the Maple Leafs where he served as a scout and assistant general manager. He served as interim head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs for part of the 1988-1989 season. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1975 and his uniform number 10 was retired by the Maple Leafs.
