BURLINGTON - Jeremy Isaiah Franks, 32, of Burlington, WV, passed from this life on Monday, January 22, 2018 at his home.
Born on November 30, 1985 in Cumberland, MD, he was a son of Bernard Stanley Franks of Princeton, WV and Lila Jane (Stewart) Franks of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pearl and Katherine Stewart and Janie Wright.
Growing up, Jeremy attended the Humpty-Dumpty School, St. John Neumann Catholic School, Keyser Middle School and graduated from Keyser High School where he participated in football and track. One of the greatest honors of his youth was attending and receiving the Citizenship Award at WV State Boys Camp. After graduation, he did one year of summer work with the WV State Bridge Department. Waynesburg University then recruited him with an academic scholarship and while attending there, played football, ran track and worked as a conditioning coach for the Waynesburg University football team. After graduating from college, he was employed by his second family, the Bright Family. Later, he was employed at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta, WV as a correctional officer, prisoner transporter and as a member of the prison riot squad. He then applied for and was hired by the Mineral County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff after graduating from the WV State Police Academy.
He enjoyed playing in the All-Star football game, coaching Little League football, kayaking, floating the river, riding dirt bikes, four wheelers and motorcycles; weight lifting, bear hunting, grilling, the ice bucket challenge for fundraisers, but most of all, spending time caring for the loves of his life, Aubrey and Zylar, as he so often said of them, "They were the best things that ever happened to him."
Surviving, in addition to his parents are his children, Aubrey and Zylar Franks and their mother, Sarah; a brother, Bernard Allen; a sister, Jill Young; aunts, Lucille "Luddy" Stewart, Linda Stewart, Joann Brandon and husband Calvin, Carolyn Brandon and husband Jesse, Paulette McKnight; uncles, James Stewart and wife Rochelle, Daniel Stewart and wife Virginia; cousins, Monica Stewart, Danielle Stewart, Jaime Stewart and a host of other cousins and friends.
Visitation and services will be private for the family. A memorial service for the public will be held at a later time with date and location to be announced.
The Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
Condolences and personal reflections to the family may be left after Jeremy's obituary at smithfuneralhomes.net.
