Joy Leatrice Carlisle was born on August 21, 1923, in Livingston, Texas. She was the daughter of Willis Calvert and Corrie Elizabeth Whisenhant Carlisle.

She had one older brother, Willis Calvert Carlisle, Jr, born on May 4, 1920, in Livingston.

In the 1930 Federal census her parents, brother Willis, age 9; and Joy age 6 were living with her Whisenhant parents in Polk County.

On August 29, 1938, their son Willis Calvert Carlisle, Jr, was married to Ruth Maercky in Madisonville, Texas. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P.G. Maercky of Houston.

Joy and her parents were living in Kerrsville, Texas, according to the 1940 Federal census.

On July 25, 1943, 2nd Lt Willis Calvert Carlisle, Jr, was killed during a mission over Hamburg, Germany. He was a pilot of the B-17 bomber "Judy B.” Survivors included Joy, her parents, and her brother’s widow Ruth Carlisle and daughter Judy Carlisle.

An announcement was made in the Kerrville Mountain Sun (Kerrsville, Texas), on February 22, 1945, page 2. Joy Leatrice Carlisle and Hall B. Allen, were married at St John the Divine Episcopal Church, in Houston, Texas. Hal B. Allen was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond B. Allen, of Houston. Joy was given in marriage by her father. She wore a “dress of ivory satin, fashioned with deep yoke of marquisette, edged in seed pearls embroidery. The bodice was fitted, and the full skirt swept into a cathedral train. A seed pearl coronet capped her veil of illusion, and she carried a shower bouquet of white gardenias.”

They had one daughter, Linda Joy Allen. The marriage didn’t last very long as Hal B Allen was again married on July 23, 1948, in Harris County.

On June 8, 1960, Leatrice Joy Allen and Finley Robert Christian were married in Nodaway County, Missouri.

At an unknown date, Joy Christian married a Mr. Rule.

Joy Leatrice Rule died on September 17, 1973. She was found deceased at her home at 1560 Bracher, Houston, Texas. An autopsy listed drug sensitivity as the cause of death. The listed informant on the certificate was her daughter.

She was listed as the co-owner of a boutique and was divorced. Joy Rule died about nine months after her mother, Corrie Carlisle.

Waltrip Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Joy Rule was buried at Memorial Oaks Mausoleum, on September 19, 1973.
