Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Irwin, age 86, peacefully passed away on January 23, 2021 at her home in Idalou. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at the Idalou Cemetery. Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2021 at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Idalou. Interment will be at Idalou Cemetery beside her husband, Jimmie. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Idalou.

Mary Elizabeth Smith was born on October 14, 1934 in Colorado City, Texas to Fred J. and Birdie C. Smith. Mary Smith married Jimmie Irwin of Knott, Texas, on December 27, 1951 in Fieldton, Texas. They were married 48 years when Jimmie passed away. Mary spent the majority of her working career at Travelers Insurance Company in Lubbock, Texas retiring as an Auditor in 1996. Mary loved to travel and especially loved spending the summers in Colorado near South Fork with her grandchildren and friends. Mary had several hobbies and was a member for many years of the South Plains China Club where she enjoyed china painting. She also belonged to several quilting organizations and loved the creative process. Mary spent the last few months of her life at home surrounded by family whom she loved dearly. She will be missed by them all.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie T. Irwin and her parents Fred and Cecil Smith.

She leaves behind her three children, Kathy Irwin of Idalou, Liz Moore (Ted Moore) of Lubbock and Jimmie F. Irwin (Barbara Wall Irwin) of Estacado. Along with her children, she had 4 grandchildren; Sarah Timmons (Nathan), Emily Green (Matt), and Austin Moore, all of Lubbock and Garrett (Lori Stephens Irwin) of Idalou. Mary also left 5 great grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Trudie Bryant of Sulphur Springs, Texas.
