SAMUEL Lupold was born Feb. 14, 1826 and died MAy 9, 1877 in a fall from his barn. He was a Dunkard minister.

"May 9th, in Lagrange Co., Ind., caused by a fall from a barn, which he was taking down, SAMUEL LUPOLD, aged 51 years, 2 months and 11 days. The deceased was born in Bucks Co., Pa., and while young went with his father to Holmes Co., Ohio. He was married to a daughter of John and Sarah Sherley. In 1851 with his family he moved to LaGrange Co., where he resided until his death. He and his wife united with the German Baptist (Tunker) church in 1856, and shortly after he was appointed to the ministry, and was a faithful servant in his Master's vineyard. He labored faithfully, and did much in building up the church in his neighborhood. By his death, a wife lost an affectionate husband, a family of children, a kind father, and the church a safe counselor. The funeral services were conducted by Jacob Burkey, of Elkkart county. A large concourse of friends and relatives met to pay the last tribute of respect to the deceased. Text: Rev. 14:13."

From 1882 History of Noble and LaGrange Cos

" The German Baptist Church, or "Dunker," has a large following in this township. The earliest efforts of the church were in 1854, when meetings were begun in the Poynter Schoolhouse. In 1857, the church was partly organized, and Samuel Doney and Samuel Lupold appointed deacons. Samuel Lupold has remained one of
the ministers and elders till the present. David Evans and Benjamin Leer have also served as ministers. At the
present time, David M. Truby is elder of the district, including Newbury, and Benjamin Leer minister of the Shipshewana Church. On Christmas, 1874, this society dedicated a frame church, on the land of Samuel Lupold, which is valued at $700. Regular meetings are held here fortnightly, and a Sunday school at the Marsh Schoolhouse. The membership of the church is about ninety. "
