Virginia “Jenny” Nelson
Of Man, WV
Virginia “Jenny” Nelson, 90, of Man, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 22, 2021, leaving from her earthly home, after a long illness.
She was born on January 29, 1930, at Braeholm, the daughter of the late Millard and Minie (Adkins) Scites.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Robert “Bobby” Nelson and Billy “BI” Nelson and his wife Sandra; three grandsons, Terrence Nelson, Geary Nelson, and Ernie Dawson; two brothers, Millard Scites Jr. and Hershel Scites; and seven sisters, Elva Walker, Edith Sizemore, Eva Grimmett, Ethel McDonald, Maxine Taylor, Erma Scites, and Gladys Grimmett.
Jenny was a Christian for over 35 years. She loved Jesus and wanted everyone to know about the Salvation that He freely offers to all. Jenny was a member of Mallory Church of God and loved her church with all of her heart. Devoted to her family, she was an exceptional mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Jenny was a loyal friend who was always willing to listen and often gave wise council. She loved to sew, do yard work, and decorate her house for every occasion. Although her life had many sorrows Jenny’s strong faith in God and naturally optimistic spirit inspired those who knew her to hold on tighter to the hand of God and give their burdens to Jesus. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Lisa and Joe Chapman of Man with whom she made her home, Therisa and Ronald McCoy of Amherstdale, Brenda Dennis of Foley, AL, and Judy Nelson of Davin; Geary “Duck” and Martha Nelson of Coal Ridge and James “Pat” and Linda Layton of Detroit, MI; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mallory Church of God at Mallory.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at the Mallory Church of God with Bishop Shaun Walker and Rev. Teddy Dean Frye officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Pall bearers will be her grandsons; Brian Layton, Jamie Layton, Greg Nelson, Chris Jacobs, James Dawson, Nick Stepp, Jake Stepp, and Jeremiah Harless.
