Graveside services for Larry Larson Hood, 85, will be in the Cement Cemetery, Cement, Oklahoma.

Larry Larson Hood was born on February 19, 1935, to Simon Franklin Hood and Jewell Odeen (Reece) Hood in Cement, Oklahoma. He passed away January 15th, 2021, at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, at the age of 85.

Larry graduated from high school in Cement. In high school, basketball and track were his favorites. After working daily on the farm, he loved to hunt and take his dogs Ring and Rover to tree squirrels.

After graduation, he moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, to work at Terre Haute Heavy Hardware. During that time, he met and married his beautiful bride, Anita Stapleton on July 3, 1954, and made their home in Terre Haute. After serving two years in the Army Reserve, Oklahoma called him home, and along with his wife and baby girl Laura, he moved and began working for US Plumbing and Supply, while he built a home for his family in Mustang, OK. When Laura moved out to start her own family, Larry and Anita bought and remodeled a home near the state capitol building in Oklahoma City, the address at the time of his death.

Growing up on the family farm, Larry learned to fix and create just about anything that was needed. His son-in-law joked that while Larry had never made a nuclear reactor, if he had a free afternoon, there would be heat and electricity for the area that night. As a true testament to his creative skills, he was self-taught on four different instruments. Videos of his playing are now family treasures.

He was preceded in death by his parents and older sister Patricia Joanne (Hood) Wiseman and his dear friend Chet Fields. Now they can sing and play music together once again.

He is survived by his wife Anita, brother Denzil Adolphus Hood and his wife Rebecca of Puebla, MX; sister Gwendolyn Sue (Hood) Wilson of Harrogate, TN; and Shirley Faye (Hood) Dyer of Anadarko, OK. Along with his brother and sisters, his greatest joy is his daughter Laura Lynne (Hood) Stackhouse living in Nashville, TN, with husband Bob, two wonderful granddaughters Makenzie Sumrall of Nashville, and Whitney (Sumrall) Hayes and husband Will of Dallas, TX. Larry has a great-grandchild due in a couple of months, so his legacy continues.

Larry loved from the bottom of his heart. No one who spoke to him once would ever forget him. His light shone brightly because he knew and loved Jesus.

Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home, Chickasha, Oklahoma.
