Juanita Louise Longhorn – 55 of Sapulpa, OK went on her heavenly journey January 19, 2021. Juanita was born on September 30th, 1965 in Claremore Oklahoma to Juaquin (Louie) and Margaret Longhorn. Juanita attended Kellyville High School and graduated with the Class of 1983. She lettered in Softball, Volleyball, HS Band, Choir and was HS Basketball Manager.

Juanita worked as an administrative assistant for the dean of community programs in Owasso. She joined Tulsa Junior College in 1984 as a student aide in the learning resource center where she spent 4 years before becoming a media assistant. In 1990, she left to become an administrative assistant for the Yuchi Tribal Organization but returned to her TCC work family in 1993 to stay as a registration clerk. She was soon promoted to a professional secretary in allied health in 1996. Juanita served in student life/student activities as administrative assistant II from 2004-2013 before accepting the position in Owasso.

In addition to beloved employee of TCC, she was also received her associate degree in business administration in 1994. She was an avid learner and voluntarily took advantage of training and development opportunities completing both levels of the administrative assistant leadership program. This excitement to “get to know something new” led her to win the TCC Staff Excellence Award two times.

Juanita was always ready to put in hard work to learn, grow, and aid others. She made such an impact that her President and CEO at TCC said “Personally, I was always excited to get my picture taken with Juanita at the College Staff Council and holiday luncheons. Her enthusiasm and fun-loving character always made me appreciate what fabulous employees we have at TCC.”

One thing I loved about Juanita was her pride and passion about who she was. She was Yuchi, Creek, Sac & Fox, Cherokee and Absentee Shawnee. She was an active member of the Polecat Ceremonial Grounds, and a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe. She was of the Turtle Clan.

Juanita loved playing sports, especially softball. She was a very good hitter and had an excellent throwing arm. Juanita was Stephanie’s catcher at home everyday cause according to our dad, if you are going to be ACCURATE AND GOOD YOU PRACTICE EVERYDAY. Days we weren’t practicing with a softball we were hitting rocks with a bat to the creek and throwing rocks from the carport to the creek – everything we did it was competitive no matter what it was.

Living in the country was the best – swinging from vines in the creek, running through the woods creeks, climbing trees, picking blackberries with grandma and digging wild onions. Just a few memories to name and too many to put on paper.
