Paul Petersen, Jr., 83, of Turin, Iowa passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa.

A Public Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. (Social distancing measures must be followed- Due to Covid-19 restrictions- Masks are required for the visitation and service.) A Private Family Service will be held at the Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Linda Boggs, officiating. Burial will follow in Belvidere Cemetery, rural Turin, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Paul was born August 1, 1937 on the farm near Turin, Iowa the son of Paul and Oma (Mann) Peterson. He grew up in the Turin area and graduated from Castana High School in 1956.

Paul and Patsy Petersen were united in marriage on March 9, 1957 in the Castana Community Church, Castana, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Susan, Sandra, and Roger. The couple were lifelong farmers on their family farm near Turin, Iowa. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle.

Paul enjoyed building bird houses for the grandchildren, traveling, attending all of his children and grandchildren’s school activities, and especially spending time with his family and friends. He took his time and cared for his son, Roger and wife, Patsy.

He was a member of the RLDS church in Moorhead, Iowa. Paul and Patsy were charter members of Monona Services (currently Crossroads of Western Iowa) and volunteered for their summer camp every year.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Bob) Steiner of Turin, Iowa and Sandra (Matt) Pflug of Ames, Iowa; grandchildren, Nicholas (Tania) Pflug, Vanessa (Ed) Darden, and Brandon Pflug, Eric (Dana) Steiner, and Betsy Mefferd; great-grandchildren, Everett Pflug, Edwin and Remi Darden, Dalton Mefferd, Logan Mefferd, Kole, Reece, and Jace Steiner; one sister, Shirley Juliff of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and two sisters-in-law, Cathy Hanson of Castana, Iowa and Nancy (Harvey) Hanson of Castana, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Oma (Mann) Peterson; his wife, Patricia “Patsy” Petersen; his son, Roger Petersen; granddaughter, Kelsey Pflug; brothers-in-law, Myron Juliff and Brady Hanson; niece, Ann Cox; and father and mother-in-law, Fred and Eva (Hoar) Anderson.
