Sheila Gail Patterson Rice, 53, of 198 Fox Lane, Chatham, entered into rest on June 18, 2016, at her residence.

She was born on November 20, 1962, in Danville and was the daughter of the late Marvin Noel Patterson Sr. and the late Patsy Jane Fox Patterson.

After beginning her career as a certified nursing aid, she was self-employed as a caregiver for local families.

She is survived by her husband, John Rice; a sister, Patsy Annette Patterson; a brother, Floyd Anderson Patterson; a niece, Darcey Erin Pittmon Flora and her husband, Seth; two nephews, Jacob Kyle Patterson, and Zachary Blake Patterson and his life partner, Heather Kauffelt; and a great-niece, Savannah Jane Patterson.

The family will be at 365 Hudson Circle, Chatham.

Memorial services will be conducted on July 2, at 1 p.m. in Chatham Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mikel Pugh officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the S.P.C.A. of Pittsylvania County, P.O. Box 936, Chatham, or the fire and rescue squads of your choice.
