Eddie and his family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana when he was three years old looking for a better opportunity in life. He accepted Christ at an early age at Union Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor Clyde Adams. He attended Harmar School and graduated from Central High School class of 1958. Eddie was one of the city's best track star. He mastered the hurdles. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and received and honorable discharge on September 30, 1964.
Eddie loved sports! He enjoyed hanging out all day with the Partee Golf Club or with just a few golfers. He couldn't wait for the snow to melt. He also played on a Fort Wayne semi pro football team.
Eddie has a entrepreneur sprit owning three companies, Russell & Son's Painting, Russell & Son's Grocery and Russel & Son's Trucking Company.
He leaves to cherish his memories his children, LaMar E. Russell, Courtney I. (Kristy) Russell, Michelle Stewart and Tracey Brown; seven grandchildren, Edward F. Russell, Maghan Russell, JaMarcus Russell, Alexia Russell, Joseph Russell, Kabeoan Hathworth and Precious Russell; special cousins, Willieodean Russell-Barnes and Minister Larry Russell; ex wife of 22 years and special friends, Thelma Moore-Russell (John) Dixie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maggie Woods-Harden and Tommy Russell; stepmother, Marie Russell; siblings, Tommy Russell, Jr., Willie Hatch, Michael Harden, Maggie Finley and Jackie Harden.
