He was born in Ridgely, Tennessee, a son of the late Earl DeSoto and Lorene Smith Boone. Billy served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. He was a bus driver with Greyhound Lines, Inc., for almost 30 years. After retiring from Greyhound, he was a long-distance truck driver.
Mr. Boone was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church in Florence.
One of eleven children, he was predeceased by four brothers and a sister. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Kelly Boone Byrum, in 2020.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Anderson Boone, of Florence; two sons, Billy Earl Boone of Dallas, TX, and Max Boone (Brittany Petty) of Memphis, TN; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Michael D. Knight, Jr., of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Audrey Michelle Purvis, of Florence; five step-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Cunningham and Martha Sublett, and three brothers, Hershel Boone, Talmedge Boone, and Jerry Boone, all of Tennessee.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, January 17, 2021, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home, followed by committal in Sansbury Hill Cemetery in Timmonsville, SC.
