Larry Ray “Skin” Barton of Warsaw, Virginia, passed away peacefully in the log home he designed, overlooking the lake he loved, surrounded by family members, on January 13, 2021. Larry was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Raymond Amos and Anna Melissa Meyers Barton. He was happily married to Susan Elizabeth Bender Barton for 57 years. Larry & Sue met at Wheatland Diner in Pennsylvania.

Larry was President of his class for 3 years at Manheim Township High School in Manheim, Pennsylvania (class of 1956). Larry was a proud alumnus of Penn State University where he graduated with a degree in Architecture. He was also a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a medic for 2 years and reserves for 6 years.

Larry’s friend, Dean Reighard, introduced us the “Baptism in the Holy Spirit”. We attended the Annandale House Church in the 70’s where we received a strong foundation for our faith. We also attended Church of the Apostle’s in Fairfax, Virginia where Larry was on Vestry for several years. Our current place of worship is New Life Ministries in Colonial Beach, Virginia which we loved so much.

Larry volunteered his architectural skills to design the Alive Global Prayer center in Annandale, Virginia. He then helped oversee the renovation in 2004 and 2005. During that time, he became a real prayer partner with the ministry. From 2007 until his death, he served on the Alive Global board of directors. He was always sensitive to how the Holy Spirit was leading the ministry. We were blessed greatly by him.

We lived in Falls Church, Virginia for 47 years with our daughters, Tanya Sue and Leslie Ray. In 2013, after retirement, we moved to Warsaw, Virginia where we enjoyed life on the lake, filling our home with large gatherings and so much love. Larry adored his wife and girls and made them the center of his world.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing. He made his own lures and spent countless blissful hours with a fishing rod in his hands. He was an inveterate tinkerer and could fix anything with superglue or duct tape. He loved playing and watching sports, and he always won at Scrabble (sometimes with words no one had ever heard of before….). Above all, however, Larry was known as a gentle soul. He was principled, generous of spirit and very kind. He was a good man with a beautiful smile for everyone and he loved to pray for people.

Larry is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Sue; his daughters, Leslie Ray “Lester” Barton Harless ( Randy Marshall) and Tanya Sue Barton Saunders (Casey Brightwood); grandchildren, Lauren Ray Barton-Hillard (Mike), Audrey Leigh Owens ( Josh), Karlie Gayle Malaska ( Josh), and John David Lacey; his great-grandchildren, Noah, Isaac, Zoe, Avery, Jessica, Caleb, Emmy, Katie Aiden, Levi, Malaki, MaKenzie, Kaden, and Kyleigh; his sisters, Phylis Kubala, Wanda Schneider (Jim), and Kathy Currence (Steven).

He was predeceased by his parents and his beloved chocolate lab, Hank.

Memorial contributions to honor the loving person Larry was may be made to New Life Ministries, 2800 McKinney Blvd., Colonial Beach, VA 22443.
