He died at the Sherman Home, a retirement center, nursing home, in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona.

Odell Jerone Jones, 88, of Phoenix, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2007. He was born in Ballinger, Texas on July 6, 1919 and married Mary Hermann on May 10, 1941. During World War II he served in the Navy from 1941 - 1946 as Chief Petty Officer aboard the battleship USS New York. Odell worked 46 years for Anderson Clayton & Co. During this time he earned a Bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University in chemical engineering, held several patents in related fields and retired as Vice President of Operations. Since his retirement in 1981 Odell was actively involved at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Phoenix having served as an usher for 19 years. He also loved playing golf and had a multitude of friends on and off of the golf course. Odell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary, son David and his wife Kathleen of Phoenix, son Craig and his wife Pat of Rochester, WA and daughter Judy Slone and her husband Barry of Laguna Niguel, CA. In addition he has 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Sunday, October 14th, 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral Mess will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, October 15, 2007 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 E. Campbell Ave., with graveside services to follow at St. Francis Cemetery.
