Effie Bigler Bell " 93 years" passed away on October 11, 2007 at Sunbrook Hospice in South Jordan, Utah. Effie was born on July 2, 1914 in Nephi, Utah to Abner and Ruby Bigler. In her early childhood years she was raised in towns of Silver City, Nephi and Eureka, Utah.

On May 1, 1936 she married Gordon Bell. They began their married life together in Eureka, Utah and followed mining industry jobs in New Mexico and Arizona and eventually returning to Utah settling in Murray, Utah, finally returning to Eureka when Gordon retired. Gordon died on March 16, 1982 and Effie remained in Eureka for the next 20 years, surrounded by good friends and relatives. In her later years she moved to the Salt Lake area. Effie was a life-long New Deal Democrat and voted in every election. She loved decorating her home during Christmas and attending the annual Nephi Memorial Day reunion. She was an avid and prolific reader of books and newspapers. Effie read everything from biographies to the Harry Potter series.

One of the legacies she left to her three children was the enjoyment and importance of reading. Although Effie was a lifelong member of the LDS religion and served in various capacities and callings, she also made lasting friendships with people of many other religious persuasions. For Effie, the friend part was more important to her than belonging to a specific affiliation. Effie was preceded in death by her husband, an infant baby girl, Joan and her sisters; Alyth, Elizabeth, Ruby and her brother, Mac.

She is survived by her children: Richard (Sherry), Payson, Utah; Jackie (Dave Chavis), Sandy, Utah; Don (Kris) of Salt Lake City. Also survived by 11 grandchildren: Lori, Gordon, Pam, Colin, Karla, Mark, Matt, Abbie, Becky, Don and Jessica and 24 great-grandchildren and Effie's younger sister Alice. At Effie's request there will be no formal funeral service. Her exact words regarding this were, " ... everyone I know is either dead or too old to travel and we never know what the weather will be like!"

That being said, there will be a viewing/visitation for those interested on Sunday, October 14, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 East Bengal Blvd. (7600 South) Salt Lake City. There will also be a Short Graveside Service the following day, Monday, October 16, 2007, 12 noon at the Nephi City Cemetery, 400 East 300 South, Nephi, Utah.
