Vernon Smith was born on February 1, 1936, in Clay County, Kentucky, the son of the late Jeff and Annie Smallwood Smith. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hensley Smith of London, Tommy Smith of London and James Edward Smith (Brenda) of Fort Huron, Michigan, five siblings, Sophie Kawasniski of Corbin, Shirley Gamble of California, Bobbie Smith, Earl Smith (Eve) and Glen Smith, all of Jarvis, Kentucky, three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, plus a host of other friends and relatives to mourn his passing. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by five brothers, Donald, Art, Russell, Gilbert and Ronnie Smith.

Vernon retired from General Motors, where he worked as a millwright, and was affiliated with the Baptist faith.

Vernon Smith departed this life at UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, Kentucky, on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, being 84 years, 11 months and 19 days of age.

Funeral services for Vernon Smith will be conducted at 1 PM Saturday in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery at Keavy.
