David Ross Sparks passed away after a long battle with congestive heart failure on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the age of 81. We all will miss “Big Dave” always! He was born February 27, 1939 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Edward and Betty Jean Sparks. Sparky, as he was affectionately called by his friends, graduated in 1957 from Thomas Carr High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Indiana University and Centenary College of Shreveport, LA. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. In 1964, he started working for Western Electric and retired after 27 years. After retiring, he owned and operated Sparks Exterior Steam Cleaning Service for 20 years.

He was a dedicated member of Summer Grove Baptist Church for the last 30 years of his life. He enjoyed singing in the choir, always being the tallest one at 6 feet 5 inches. He belonged to the Weco Telephone Pioneers, Benton Rotary Club, the Benton Masonic Lodge #89, 32 degree Scottish Rite, El Karubah Shriner Golf Unit. He was especially happy to be a part of “We the People” Tea Party and loved The O’Brocks, Bonnie Pharr and The Longs, who were all longtime friends. Dave loved his three daughters passionately and spent many summers at Lake Greeson, camping, skiing, and fishing. At the end, he really became close to his Lord, Jesus Christ and called him his “friend”.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Cindy Sparks Creamer (fiancé, Christopher DeLoach) and Annette Sparks Parker; grandchildren, Kristi Graves Pentz (Justin), Dustin Sherrill, Matthew Creamer, Lauren Creamer, Emily Parker and Molly Parker; and great grandchildren, Kaden, Maddie, Nash and Ezra.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Joy Lynn Sparks Graves; parents, Edward H. Sparks and Betty Sparks; and brothers, Ward Sparks and Thomas Sparks.

The family would like to express their appreciation to his heart doctors, Dr. James Jackson, Dr. Ajaya Tummala, Dr. Kasabli, and Dr. Jimmy Smith; Jordan and Stephen at Willis Knighton North 2nd floor; Matthew, Melissa, Katy and Melissa at Cornerstone Specialty Hospital during his final days; and to his Western Electric buddies especially Milton Fritch, and the Bossier Sheriff’s Posse with Buddy Keith.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association in honor of Dave.

Due to the current pandemic, the family will be hosting a Celebration of his Life at a later date.

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
