Donald Allen Quigley, 76, of Marshalltown, Iowa, died on January 16, 2021, at the Iowa River Hospice surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 7, 1944, the son of Bill and Rosa (Daggett) Quigley in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Mesa High School in Arizona. He earned an Associates of Arts degree from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.

In 1961, Don entered the Army in Boise, Idaho, and served until 1964. He flew helicopters in Vietnam.

Don worked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers for 20 years until retiring. While in the Corps, Don received many certificates and awards. After his time with the Corps, he worked for several schools doing maintenance and as a school bus driver.

Don married to Miriam Melcher in 1976 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. After eight years, the two went their separate ways until they reconnected and remarried in 2003 in Mena, Arkansas.

Don belonged to the Mena American Legion for many years. He and Miriam were active members of their church Cornerstone Pentecostal in Mena. Don was always eager to help others whether it be in the form of time, money, or prayer. He was his mother’s caretaker, and built a studio home just for her. Don was full of compassion and did not know a stranger. Don had the gift of gab, telling stories and reminiscing. When Don got together with friends or family he always made sure everyone had a good time. He was always up for an adventure and had “the need for speed” in his six-speed Mustang.

In September of 2020, Don and Miriam moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, to be closer to family. Don joined the Marshalltown American Legion when they relocated. He was excited for the move and made sure to attend every one of his great-nephew’s football games. He loved to play with his great-nieces and great-nephews and to be “one of the kids”.

Survivors include his wife, Miriam; a grandson, Marcus Quigley of Plainview, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Debby (John) Howard of Madison, Wisconsin, and Kathy (Dick) Wilkening of Marshalltown, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Don was preceded by his parents Bill and Rosa.

Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials to your local American Cancer Society, the Marshalltown American Legion, or Cornerstone Pentecostal Church, Mena, Arkansas.
