Joan (Schwieder) Frazier was born in 1937 to Latham and Ruby Schwieder and spent her first years in a house located on what is now the Steelville community park land in the heart of town. As a teen Joan loved her walking horse named Man and won numerous awards around the State in the "Ladies Open Show" class against grown women. She also taught dance to many Steelville girls.
After graduation from Steelville HS Joan graduated from Drury College in Springfield, then moved to St. Louis to teach high school until marriage swept her away to Springfield.
Joan is survived by her son Anthony, his wife Jenny, twin granddaughters Lila and Lily, and by four beloved cousins born of her Uncle Ed and Aunt Teresa. She was preceded in death by her dear mother Ruby and father Latham. Her daily calls over the years with Springfield residents Janice McCaulley, Sis Hamlin and Ginger Hardie were life-sustaining.
A family graveside service was held on Sunday, January 17, 2021 in the Steelville Cemetery.
