Thomas Patrick Carnes

Reno - Our beloved brother, Thomas Patrick Carnes, passed away from natural causes on December 19, 2020 at the age of 70. Tom was born August 16, 1950 in Burbank, CA to parents Patrick F. Carnes and Margaret L. Carnes. He graduated from Chatsworth High School in the San Ferando Valley four months prior to enlisting in the United Sates Navy November 1968 and honorably discharged November 1972. Tom was assigned as a fireman to the USS Passumpsic, a Patrol River Boat patrolling on the Perfume River that meanders through the city of Hue, South Vietnam approximately fifty miles Northeast of Da Nang, Vietnam. After serving in the Navy, Tom travelled across the United States ending up in South Lake Tahoe. Tom retired in 2005 from a thirty year career bartending for Harrah's Casino in South Lake Tahoe. Beginning in 1975 he served libations to many stars of the day at private celebrity parties, after show celebrations, at the Summit Bar, or at the Cabaret bar on the first floor. Tom was a good guy as stated by many of his friends, family, girlfriends. Tom was the consummate bartender for all who swaggered up to the bar for a good joke or wise crack. A voracious book reader, Tom could also be found fishing at Pyramid Lake with his buddies, rock hounding in Northern Nevada or travelling to southern California to visit friends. Tom will be immensely missed. Tom was predeceased by his parents Patrick & Margaret Carnes. He is survived by his three siblings who all live in the Reno, Nevada area; Kenneth Carnes (Janet). Judy (Robert) Artrup and James Carnes. He also was Uncle Tom to sister Judy's children Major Michael Moore, Children John, Peyton and Kinsey Moore. Timothy Ruth (Renee), Children Aidan & Winter Ruth. Thomas Ruth (Ruby), Children Malcom, Luenna, and Jacob Ruth. James Carnes children, Lyndsey (Ryan) Ireland. Children Kobe, Brode, Brennan and Philip Ireland. Kelsey (Dr Cameron) Taylor, Children Colin and James. Sara Preston (Bruce), Children Jacob, Nia and Anggie.

Family Services will be held at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Fernley, NV at a date to be determined. A celebration of life will be held at a later date this summer when family and friends can gather together without worry of COVID.
