PLYMOUTH, IN -

Iris A. Smith, 103, formerly of Plymouth for over 50 years, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at The Landing of Gainesville in Georgia.

She was born in Bourbon Township on October 17, 1917 to Ray and Evelyn (Sousely) Seymour. She graduated high school and went on to briefly attend Ancilla College in Donaldson. Iris was the first girl to ride in the Horse Race at the Bourbon Fair in 1935 and WON.

On May 29, 1937 in the family home, Iris married Walter Smith. He would precede her in death on November 12, 1993.

She worked as a receptionist for Dr. Pownall's Dentistry for 17 years before her retirement in 1982.

Iris was a lifetime member of Plymouth Church of the Brethren in Plymouth, where she was a lady's aide in the church, helping make lap blankets and denim rugs.

She loved sewing quilts and doing cross stitch. She was a collector, having a hard time ever throwing something away because you never knew if you needed it. She loved her kitties and loved to cook. She played golf on Wednesdays, holes 1-9, and was a great conversationalist.

She is survived by her sons, Patric Smith (Cindy deceased) of Atlanta, GA and Michael (Barbara) Smith of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Sherri (Andrew) Ortega of Naples, FL, Nathan Smith (Tracey) of San Marcos, CA, and Justin Smith (Daisy) of San Francisco, CA; great-granddaughters, Brittany (Jay) Tilley and Courtney (Caleb) Herrin; and great-great-grandchildren, Jonah and Aden Tilley all of Flowery Branch, GA.

Iris was preceded in death by her husband Walter, parents, and daughter-in-law, Cindy.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 12 p.m. at Plymouth Church of Brethren, 1130 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Friends are welcome one hour prior.

Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Bourbon, IN.
