Bertha "Jerry" Geraldine Jones (Solkema) passed away January 17th, 2021
at St. Luke's South, Overland Park , Kansas. Burial will be in Englewood
Cemeterv next to her husband.
Jerry was born August 22, 1929 in San Diego, California to Arthur G
Solkema, Sr, and Bertha L Solkema (Eastman). Jerry was baptized on
September 15th, 1929, she was less than a month old. Jerry grew up in a
home full of family that included at times, grandparents, aunts, uncles and
cousins. Jerry was leaving church with her family when her future husband,
Bobbie spotted her. He told his Navy buddies that THAT was the girl he
was going to marry! They were married October 29th, 1950 at Jerry's
church, the Assembly of God in San Diego, CA. Whilè Bobbie was in the
Navy they lived on the naval base in San Francisco. After Bobbie's
discharge they moved to Pleasanton Kansas where Bobbie's parents lived.
After that they lived in various places including Lawrence Kansas,
Appleton City, Missouri, Montrose, Missouri, Deepwater, Missouri, and
Clinton, Missouri. Jerry was a lifelong homemaker while Bobbie worked at
Peabody Cole Co. Jerry enjoyed gardening, crocheting, collecting recipes
and newspaper articles. She loved to cook and do puzzles. She loved to
watch the Golden Girls, The Waltons, M*A*S*H, Little House on the
Prairie, Walker Texas Ranger, and every John Wayne movie ever made.
She loved to watch Wheel of Fortune every evening with son-in-law
Donnie. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life, she was
the best mother anyone could have asked for, she was selfless and
generous. To this union four children were born Larry Dean Jones
(Donna), Michael Alan Jones, Shelley Wagoner (Donald) and Sandra Lee
Davis (Ed). One sister Cathy M Grantham Jim). She has 12 grandchildren,
9 great grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her parents, her husband Bobbie C Jones and brother Arthur G
Solkema Jr. and one sister-in-law MaDonna J Jones, and numerous cousins.
