Leslie Lloyd Nixon Jr., 90, of Floydada, TX passed away on January 19, 2021. He was a loving Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Floydada. Interment will follow at Floydada Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the Parlor of the First Baptist Church in Floydada. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.

Leslie was born on January 31, 1930, to Leslie L. Nixon Sr. and Velma Lee Jameson in Floyd County. Leslie was a life-long resident of the Campbell Community where many fond memories were made on the family farm with his brothers and sisters. Leslie graduated from Floydada High School in 1948 and attended West Texas State College for one year, and then attended Eastern New Mexico University for two years. The following year he joined the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country for 4 years before returning home to farm and raise livestock. Leslie married his sweetheart, Doris Rape on November 17, 1956.

Leslie and Doris raised three sons, Gary, Keith, and Robert. Leslie enjoyed spending time with his boys hunting, fishing, and playing on the lake. Leslie attended the boys sporting events and stock shows. Leslie was a hardworking steward of the land and passed that value of a hard day’s work on to his sons and grandsons. Leslie loved getting together with family and playing hands of pinochle, dominoes, 42, 84, and sharing stories around the table of days gone by.

Leslie served on the Soil and Water Conservation Board for numerous years, as well as the Farm Bureau Board. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Floydada.

Leslie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris; brothers, Fred Nixon of Lubbock, TX, Lowell Nixon and wife Jo of Yukon, OK, Loran Nixon and wife Nancy of Sells, AZ; sisters, Joy McCulloch of Aledo, TX, Mary Harbin and husband Mark of Jarrell, TX; step-sister, Skeet Dennis of Stamford, TX; sister-in-law, Yolanda Nixon of Tucson, AZ; sons, Gary Nixon and wife Robin of Floydada, TX, Keith Nixon and wife Trish of Dallas, TX, Robert Nixon and Arleen Nixon of Floydada, TX; and five grandchildren, Kirby Nixon, Keenan Nixon, Rance Nixon, Corey Hayter and wife Kali Hayter, and Christopher Hayter; and two great-grandchildren, Lacey and Riley.

He is preceded in death by his brother Franklin Nixon.
