MRS. GAISER OF CHAMPAIGN LOSES HER LIFE
Is Killed In Automobile Accident Near Allentown
Body Brought Home
Mrs. Gus Gaiser, formerly Mrs. Emma Hardshaw (sic), was instantly killed about 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon near Allentown, west of Mackinaw, as a result of an automobile accident, while Mr. and Mrs. Gaiser were en route from Champaign to the home of her sister near Pekin.
Mr. and Mrs. Gaiser left Champaign at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. They had reached Allentown and started up a steep grade, when Mr. Gaiser discovered that his car could not negotiate the hill. He backed down and started again, but the car began slipping backward. He set the brakes, but they failed to hold, and the driver lost control of the car, which dashed back down the hill and down an embankment.
Mrs. Gaiser was crushed under the car and Mr. Gaiser's jaw was broken, and he sustained other painful bruises. A coroner's inquest was held at Mackinaw Wednesday evening, and it was determined that Mrs. Gaiser had come to her death as a result of injuries received in a motor car accident.
The Gaisers were within fifteen miles of the home of her sister when the accident happened.
The decedent was 38 years of age. She is survived by her husband. The remains were brought to Champaign this morning and were taken to the Gaiser home, 536 North Market street.
First reports of the accident reaching Champaign confused the identity of Mrs. Gaiser, the reports circulated stating that Mrs. J. F. Gaiser of 312 South Neil street was the one killed. J. F. Gaiser and Gus Gaiser are cousins.
Funeral services will probably be held Saturday, altho (sic) arrangements cannot be completed until word is received from a brother of the decedent residing in Texas.
