James "Jim" Edward Lemaster, age 83, of the New Columbus community in Owen County, passed away at his home, Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
Born February 12, 1937, in Letcher County, KY, he was the son of the late Lindon Cash and Laura Ann Morgan Lemaster. He was preceded in death by his siblings, John Lemaster, Lynn Fox, Patricia Anderson, Billie Sue King, Betty Lou Fleming, and Gary Wayne Lemaster. Jim began his working career as an electrician with the city of Lexington until he bought and operated a Sunoco Service Station. In 1979 he relocated to the New Columbus community to own and operate Lemaster's Grocery where he served his community and loved visiting with friends. He operated the store for more than 27 years, until his retirement in 2006. His favorite pastime was spending time on their family's houseboat on Lake Cumberland where he enjoyed fishing, or as he called it 'drowning worms'.
He leaves behind his wife, of almost 62 years, Barbara Watson Lemaster; his children, James "Jim" Lindon Lemaster and Sarah Susan Livers and husband Tom; his grandsons, J.T., Andy Clayton, and Nick Scott Livers; his siblings, Joan Ferroro, Mary Ruth Stephens and husband Jerry, and Linda Olson and husband Erick.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 4 - 8 pm. This will be a pass-thru visitation with masks and social distancing required. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday at the funeral home with Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier presiding. Burial will be in the New Columbus Cemetery.
