Death Notice published in Woodstown newspaper "The Monitor-Register" on Friday, May 14th 1915:
"Mannington Farmer Shoots Himself -John Bloemer in Abscence of Family, Goes to Cellar and Ends His Life --
John V. Bloemer, a prominent Mannington farmer, who resided on the late Martin P. Grey farm, took his life Tuesday mornin by shooting himself with a shot gun. Mr. Bloemer had been in poor health for some time ad that is thought to have been the cause of this rash act.
Mr. Bloemer had been undergoing treatment at the Cumberland County hospital since October last, and his condition had improved to such an extent that he was discharged and came home to his family on Saturday. He appeared delighted to get back once more and on Sunday visited his neighbors and friends and was in the best of spirits. On Tuesday morning Mrs. Bloemer went to Salem with the milk for one of the creameries and Mr. Bloemer remained at home. When she returned she expected to find her husband at the house, but as he was no where about she and the farm hands started a search. In the cellar one of the men found his lifeless body on the floor with a shot gun in one hand and a yard stick in the other. One side of his face and head was badly torn, showing that he had placed the gun barrels at his mouth and the load had come out near the right ear. It is presumed he used the yard stick to work the trigger.
Coroner Denn was summoned and after an investigation gave a certificate of burial as an inquest was unnecessary.
Mr. Bloemer was about forty-three years of age and a son of the late Edward Bloemer. To the surviving family, the deep sympathy of a host of friends is extended in their sudden bereavement."
