Mary was the daughter of Thomas Clark Fruit who was one of the early and well-known pioneers of his section of the State. He was a native of North Carolina born October 5, 1784, and passed the first eighteen years of his life in the place of his birth.
He then went to Kentucky and was married in that State July 31, 1806, to Elizabeth Thompson who was a native of North Carolina.
Elizabeth was the youngest child of her family and had the misfortune to lose her mother (Polly (Reader) Thompson), who was drowned when she was a small child.
