Rita Lucile Hunt, 81, passed away Monday evening, January 4, 2021, at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a short illness with Covid complications.

Rita was born June 21, 1939, to Harold T. and Lucille (Lamb) Hunt in Muncie.

She attended Blaine Elementary-Junior High School, and was graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1957. Following high school, she attended Ball State Teachers College (now BSU) and earned both Bachelor and Master’s degrees in education, concentrating on English and Social Studies.
After graduation from Ball State, Rita began her teaching career in Bremen, Indiana, at the junior high school level. From Bremen she went to Noblesville and Arlington (Rush County) Junior Highs and taught for 7 years. During her last year of teaching, she re-enrolled at Ball State and received a degree in accounting.
Rita left teaching and began a long career with the James H. Drew Company in Indianapolis. She retired from there in 2002; they asked her to come back part time which she did for almost 15 years, having retired a second time in November 2020.
Family was very important to her. Rita enjoyed card games, board games, bingo, crossword puzzles, and the casino. To say that Rita was an avid reader would be an understatement; she could always be seen reading and making frequent trips to the library. She stayed in touch with many of her high school friends attending as many luncheons and reunions as possible. And she never lost her Bearcat spirit. She was proud to have been a member of the Girl’s Cheer Block while at Muncie Central.

Rita is survived by her nieces Heather Morgan and Hilary Robertson, sister-in-law Betty (Clark) Hunt, long-time companion James Lewis, special cousins Jean Filson and Kay Rankin.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; brother Tom Hunt (2010); and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

According to her wishes, cremation will take place.

Burial will occur later this spring at Gardens of Memory
