Cecilia Gibbins, 15, Verona, died Saturday at the St. Elizabeth Hospital from multiple injuries received February 25 when the car in which she was riding was demolished by a Southern Railroad freight train. Her sister, Anna Rose Gibbins, 13, and Owen Elam, 27, driver of the car, both of Verona, were killed when the mile-long, northbound train slammed into their car at the Maher Road crossing, three miles south of Florence. Steve Scheper, 824 Main St., Covington, the train’s engineer, told Boone County police chief Melvin Collins that he did not see the car, but that his fireman sighted it just before the impact. The car was dragged northwest for about 1500 feet before Scheper was able to bring the train to a halt. The Gibbins girl is survived by her mother, Mrs. Margaret Gibbins; a brother, Jesse Gibbins, Elliston; two sisters, Mrs. Carlton Wisener, Walton, and Mrs. Harold Donovan, Verona. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Hamilton Funeral Home in Verona. Visitation, after 3 p.m. today. (The Cincinnati Enquirer, Ohio, Monday, 4 Mar 1968)
