James K. “Jim” Maynard, age 83, of Cheboygan passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 at Medilodge of Rogers City. He was born February 1, 1937 in Bay City, the son of Harold and Martha (Knaffle) Maynard of Rogers City. He graduated from Rogers City High School in 1955 and Ferris Institute (FSU) in 1957. On March 4, 1961, Jim married Carolyn Johnson who preceded him in death in 1983. He married Myrna McClintock on August 4, 1984 and she preceded him in death in 2011.

Jim had worked at Lucky Strike Lanes as a pinsetter, City Radio and TV and US Steel in the house maintenance department, all in Rogers City. Upon moving to Cheboygan, Jim worked at Procter & Gamble as a boiler technician and retired in 1992 after 25 years of service.

Jim had served on the Cheboygan City Council from 1976 – 1980, the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Planning Commission for a total of 28 years. Since 1969, Jim has volunteered his time and has been a very active member of Faith Baptist Church. In 2002, he was named Volunteer of the Year by the Cheboygan Rotary Club.

Survivors include his two children, Ron (Peggy) Maynard of Cheboygan and Beverly (Jeff) Chadwell of Gaylord, four grandchildren, Candi Luft of TN, Brandy (Scott) Everson of Hudsonville, and Chelsea and Emily Maynard, both of Cheboygan and four great grandchildren, Alyssa, Emery, Avery and Riley. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert and his sister, Carol Robb.

The funeral service will take place at Faith Baptist Church on Friday, January 22, with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jim Currie will officiate. Burial will take place in the spring at Pinehill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Cheboygan County Humane Society or the Women’s Resource Center. Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
