Waynesville - Mack Carl Bryson, 81, of 383 Monte Vista Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Carl and Ninnie McElroy Bryson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Mack Bryson, who died in 1953; and two sisters, Edna Davis and Ila Lepley.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II on the USS Charger. Mack was a former employee of Dayco Corporation and retired with 36 years service, and later worked as manager for Haywood County Recycling Facilities for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Juanita Messer Bryson; two daughters, Joyce Tharpe and her husband, Lee, of Gainesville, Ga., and Cindy Coward and her husband, Keith, of Clyde; son, Ronnie Mack Bryson, of Waynesville; seven sisters, Lois Pippin, Ruby Green, and Pansy Reeves, all of the Iron Duff community, Jessie Humphrey, of Boothwyn, Pa., Sally Kate Phillips and Billie Davis, both of Waynesville, and Susie Richards, of Rossville, Ga.; brother, Duane Bryson, of the Iron Duff community; six grandchildren, Travis and Cassie Tharpe, Josh and Cody Bryson, and Lindsey and Luke Coward; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Antioch Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. Steve Taylor officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
