Stephen C. Burke, 70, of Lewistown, died Friday, January 15, 2021.
Born March 8, 1950 in Key West, Fla., he was the son of the late Mildred L. (Mowery) Burke Webber and Charles "Bud" Burke, and stepson of the late R. Richard "Dick" Webber.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Christopher S. Burke, and sister, Paula S. Getz.
He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 50 years, Dorothy M. (Fye) Burke, whom he married August 21, 1970.
Also surviving are: son, Geoffrey A. Burke and wife, Kathleen, of McVeytown; daughter-in-law, Dana Burke, of McAlisterville; grandchildren, Zachary, Cadan, Abby, Dacah, Desah and Maya; great-granddaughter, Emmy Lou; and brother, Timothy G. Burke and wife, Karen, of Lewistown.
A graduate of Lewistown-Granville High School, Class of 1968, Stephen attended the University of Tampa and graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1971. Steve was a funeral director at Baumeister-Orcutt Funeral Home, York, Pa., for seven years before leaving the funeral business in 1979 to return to Lewistown. He held several positions over a twelve-year period for K-B Aerotech's Medical Sales/Marketing Department. In 1990, at the urging of Charlie Hershberger, he returned to the funeral business with Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., becoming a partner in 1992 of Hoenstine and Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc. He and Dorothy purchased the companies from Charlie and wife, Paula in 2002. Stephen retired in 2011, handing the companies over to their son, Geoffrey.
Steve was a big fan of the Steelers, Pirates, Penn State football and wrestling, and enjoyed playing golf with his buddies. He was a past member and president of Lewistown Lions Club, a member of Lewistown Elks Club, and Lewistown Country Club.
His grandchildren were the joy of his life. He loved and was so proud of them. He always had a smile on his face and his infectious laugh will be missed.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private graveside service will be held at Lewistown Lutheran Cemetery, with Rev. Charles L. Hershberger officiating.
