Carl Cochrane, 80, of Afton, formerly of Creston, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at his home at C.A.R.E. in Afton.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at the Powers Funeral Home 612 N. Dodge in Afton. Pastor Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery of Creston at a later date.

Carl Fredrick Cochrane, son of George Clarence Cochrane and Cora Eliza (Doud) Cochrane, was born June 17, 1933 in Creston. He was educated in Creston schools. Carl lived the majority of his childhood in Creston. Beginning in 1963, he lived and worked at the County Home, between Creston and Afton. There he assisted with the county home farming. He moved to the new county facility in Afton in 1984. Carl attended the First Baptist Church in Creston and had been a very active participant with the Special Olympics.

Survivors include two sisters, Viola Thompson of Citrus Heights, Calif. and Dixie (husband Edwin) Wilson of Des Moines; two brothers, Richard "Wayne" Cochrane of Citrus Heights, Calif. and Kenneth Cochrane of Des Moines; his C.A.R.E. family of Afton; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Clarence, Eugene and Mick Cochrane and a sister, Doris Burhop.
