Billy Jon Campbell, 81, farmer of Marks, MS, passed away at Panola Medical Center in Batesville, MS on Sunday, January 10, 2021, after a brief illness. Born December 7, 1939, he was the son of John Lacy Campbell and Flossie Dee Abercrombie Campbell of Belen, MS, and was also preceded in death by his only sibling, Larry Lee Campbell.
Schools he attended include Belen Elementary; St. Elizabeth Catholic School, Clarksdale; Columbia Military Academy, Columbia, TN; Marks High School Class of 1959; Northwest Mississippi Junior College; and University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg.
From 1965 to the Spring of 1967 when he began farming near Belen, Billy Jon was an appliance serviceman for Home Service, Inc. and also a mail carrier for the City of Marks. He may be remembered for wearing his cowboy boots and big cowboy hat.
In 1985 he moved from Belen to Vero Beach, FL, to become farm manager for Ciba-Geigy. After retiring he moved to Marks where he continued to farm as much as he could when he wasn't hunting, fishing, cooking, gardening or hanging out at the Co-Op solving the world's problems.
He leaves a daughter, Christine Lynn Campbell Henrie (Jeff), Greer, SC; a son, John Nash Campbell (Patrice) Sebastian, FL; five grandchildren, Elizabeth McArthur, Woodruff, SC; Michael Campbell Meirelles, Greer, SC; Harley Colt Campbell, Sebastian, FL; Sarah Kathryn Henrie, Greer, SC; and Lacy Marie Campbell, Sebastian, FL; two nieces, Kate Campbell Whitman, Little Rock, AR, and Virginia Mae Campbell Hunter, Brentwood, TN; first cousin Melvin Woodrow "Woody" Woods, Jr., Lula, MS; and the mother of his children, Anita "Nini" Jackson Nash of Boca Raton, FL.
