Johnny J Hollis was born on October 4, 1937 in Columbia, SC and passed away on January 16, 2021 and is under the care of Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel.
CHAPIN A memorial service for Johnny J. Hollis Jr., 83, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Mr. Hollis died Saturday, January 16, 2021. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Johnny J. Hollis Sr. and Lela Mae Wolfe Hollis. He graduated from Columbia High School and served in the S.C. Air National Guard for several years. He retired from the S.C. Department of Corrections where he specialized in kitchen equipment repair. He enjoyed fishing, fixing anything broken and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ruby Abbott Hollis; sons, Johnny “Jay” Hollis III (Bina) of Chapin, Curtis A. Hollis of West Columbia; sisters, Shirley H. Amick of Columbia, Margie H. Oswald of Myrtle Beach; three grandchildren, Brittany, Kelsey and Haley; three great-grandchildren and Robbie Collins. He was predeceased by sisters, Jimmie Boykin, Eleanor H. Takach, and Evelyn H. Hedgepath.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 121 Executive Center Drive, # 138, Columbia, SC 29210 or a charity of one’s choice.
