Betty J. Zimmerman, 98, of Bloomington, IL, formally of Overland Park and Stanley, Kansas, went home to our Lord and Savior on January 5, 2021 where she was united with her beloved husband.
Private burial will be at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, Kansas at a later date. Memorials may be made in her name to the Chaplaincy Program c/o Luther Oaks Foundation, 601 Lutz Rd, Bloomington, IL 61704
Betty was born on May 30, 1922 in Kansas City, Kansas to Ray E and Margaret Haberstroh. She married Orville A Zimmerman on April 28, 1946, who preceded her in death on Feb 14, 2012 after sharing nearly 66 years together.
Also preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Ray Haberstroh, Jr.
Survivors include a son, David (Patricia) Zimmerman; daughter, Shirley Zimmerman Jacobs; grandchildren, David W Zimmerman, Scott W Jacobs, Jr. and Megan L Jacobs; one great- granddaughter, Ukiah Engan,; nephews, Ray (Barb, deceased), Denny (Elaine), Scott (Lynn) Haberstroh and niece, Donna (Alan)Spain.
She was the beloved matriarch of the family always enjoying times spent together. While living in Kansas, she and Orville were faithful members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Grandview, Mo. She spent her last years as a resident of Luther Oaks Retirement Community in Bloomington, IL where she loved playing bridge, attending Bible Study with Chaplain Lyn and was active in her book club. Her friends will remember her smile, quick wit and spunk. While living in Bloomington, she was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Our family is especially thankful for the love and care she received her last weeks by the team at Luther Oaks Healthcare Center and the caring group from Transitions Hospice. Those of us who knew Betty, were truly blessed.
