Thomas (Tom) Eugene Douglas, Sr. was a civil servant through his contributions as a policeman, a city income tax commissioner, and as a leader for the Ohio Department of Transportation.
He was born on March 21, 1931 to Charles and Lilly Douglas of Lancaster, Ohio, the last living of 8 children. Tom started working at the age of 5 on the back of a milk truck and was a bellhop in Lancaster & Columbus both while he attended and graduated from Lancaster High School. After serving his country in the United States Air Force, he met and married Bonnie Ruth Douglas (deceased) to whom he was married to for 57 years.
Tom built homes, bought and rented commercial as well as residential properties, and managed his own real estate company: Tom Douglas Real Estate. He raised his family at Calvary Lutheran Orthodox Church, was a Master Mason, 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. Tom enjoyed local, collegiate, and NFL football, music, and comedy. In his retirement, he and Bonnie travelled extensively throughout the US and Europe.
Tom and Bonnie raised five children who hee leaves behind & 30+ grand & great grandchildren.
We'd like to thank the team at Fairfield Medical Center for their care while he battled COVID-19. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 11th, 2021 from 5PM-7PM at the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME. Private Services are to be held on Tuesday with a burial to be conducted with Military Honors at Maple Grove Cemetery in Lancaster.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to the Fairfield Medical Center Foundation (401 N. Ewing St. Lancaster, OH 43130 or online at https://www.fmchealth.org/foundation/)
