Obituary for Janet Ruth Nicholas
Janet Ruth Nicholas, 77, of Mount Vernon, OH, a sweet wife of over 55 years, companion in ministry, mother to 3 amazing children and their spouses, and grammie to 9 precious grandchildren went home to be with Jesus whom she loved so much on Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Riverside United Methodist Hospital, Columbus. She is now in the presence of the one who loved her first and loves her most.
Jan was born March 28, 1943, the daughter of Palmer and Lucille (Harrod) Severance. She was a graduate of Kentucky Mountain Bible College, Vancleve, KY, and a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Mount Vernon, OH. She served as a faithful pastor’s wife and ministry partner for 55 years in several churches as well as traveling across the country sharing the gospel and loving people. Jan enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends playing games, telling stories, thrifting, and celebrating others. She was known for her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, gentle spirit, servant’s heart, and powerful prayer life. But nothing was more apparent than her love for the Lord and desire to serve him in every aspect of her life. Jan’s simple faith inspired so many and she left a beautiful testimony of peace remaining faithful all the way to the end.
Jan is survived by her husband, Rev. Claude Nicholas, whom she married on August 14, 1965; children, Bethanie (Dan) McKinley, Brenita Nicholas -Edwards (Tony Edwards), and Jon (Rachel) Nicholas; grandchildren, Caleb McKinley, Sarah (Caleb) Pasiuk, Joshua McKinley, Halle Nicholas, Danny McKinley, Lilla Nicholas, Eli Nicholas and Luca Nicholas; brother, Doug (Juanita) Severance; sisters, Bev (Bill) Brown and Marilyn (Keith) Settlemoir; sister-in-law, Mary Nicholas; and 10 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister-in-law, Tina Yoder.
A time to visit with Jan’s family will be Tuesday, January 19 from 10 AM until 11 AM at First Church of the Nazarene, 807 Coshocton Ave., Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM at the church with Pastor Nikki Catherincchia officiating. Graveside services will follow at Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon. Due to COVID - 19, everyone is asked to wear a mask and remain socially distanced.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jan’s memory to Kentucky Mountain Bible College, 855 Highway 541, Jackson, KY 41339.
