Obituary for Peggy Grant Myers

On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, Peggy Grant Myers, loving wife and mother of four children, passed away at the age of 86. She was born on December 12, 1934, in Savannah, GA, to Dr. Theron and Mrs. Peggy Grant. Peggy married Dr. Gratz C. Myers and together they enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage. They raised two sons, Gratz and David, and two daughters, Kathy and Cindy. During their marriage, they lived in Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Arizona and Kentucky. Peggy had a flexible willingness about moving and adapted quickly to her new homes.

She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in Education and taught elementary children for over 30 years. She loved teaching little ones how to read and immigrant children how to speak English in the process, which they acquired, but in her Southern drawl. She dedicated her career to working with primary aged children and loved those relationships and interactions.

Peggy had a passion for classical music, theater, nature, enjoyed bird watching from her windows, reading, and visiting botanical gardens. She was also known for her sewing and painting, enjoying each of these throughout the years. She lived and loved her last years at Liberty Heights Retirement Community, Rockwall, TX, where she was known for her quick wit, infectious smile, elegant style, organizational talents, and her kind and compassionate spirit. She spent many enjoyable hours playing rummikub and canasta with dear friends, usually making up their own rules. She enjoyed welcoming new residents and had such pleasure maintaining friendships with everyone.

She was a life-long Methodist, practicing her Christian faith in charitable activities, prayer and study groups, and attending church services regularly throughout her life. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rockwall until her death. Her legacy of personal faith in God, and service to others, was modeled in her daily life and passed on to her children.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her children: Gratz Myers, David Myers (Maurine), Kathy Jones (Kevan), and Cindy Lewis (Brian); her siblings: Terry Benson (Alec), Tag Grant (Pattie) and Dan Grant; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage and of being a Southern lady. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A graveside service for family will be held at a later date in Savannah, GA. If desired, memorials can be made to her favorite local charity: Helping Hands, or memorials can be made to the scholarship fund in her father's memory: Theron Arthur Grant Memorial Scholarship Fund, [email protected]

A special thank you to all who have loved or served her along the way. Thank you for your prayers of encouragement and support throughout this journey.
