Maria “Grace” Melendez, 65, of Sweetwater passed from this life Thursday, January 14, 2021 surrounded by her husband and children.
Private Holy Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Nilo Nalugon officiating. Interment followed at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A private Prayer Vigil and Rosary was held Friday evening at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Deacon David Mendez and Lupe Medellin officiating.
Grace was born October 12, 1955 in El Paso, Texas. She married Andy Melendez on November 3, 1979 in Sweetwater. Grace worked as Central Supply Clerk at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital for several years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish and was an active member of the Guadalupana Society. She served as an alter server at the church.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Andy Melendez of Sweetwater; daughter, Erica Sanchez and Cesar of Sanderson, Texas; son, Michael Melendez of Spanish Fork, Utah;, her mother, Maria Guzman of El Paso; sisters, Laura DeLeon and Freddie of Phoenix, Arizona, Lety Salinas of Houston and Patricia Martinez of El Paso; brother, Carlos Ramsey of Houston; grandchildren, Thalia, Emmalyn and Jason Sanchez of Sanderson and Matthew Melendez of Abilene; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father and a brother, Albert Guzman.
Pallbearers were Michael Melendez, Cesar Sanchez, Carlos Ramsey, Eulalio “Chito” Melendez, Andy Melendez and Jason Sanchez.
