DOTHAN. . .Claude Marion Nelson, a resident of Dothan, died Friday afternoon, January 15, 2021, in a Dothan hospital as a result of complications from COVID-19. He was 95.
There are no funeral or memorial services planned at this time. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Nelson was born in Birmingham, April 1, 1925, and was reared in Newton, Alabama, son of the late Claude Marion Nelson, Sr. and Marie Dark Nelson. He was raised by “Uncle Ben” and “Aunt Granny Bill Sellers” and his sisters, Rubye Morgan, Julia Boylan, Yvonne Sellers, and Bennye Frances Keene and a brother, Joe Frank Nelson, Sr. At an early age, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served his country during World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Nelson received a B. S. Degree and Masters Degree, both in Education, from the University of Alabama. He retired as a History Teacher in Jupiter, Florida where he lived most of his adult life. Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his wife, Irene McLeod Nelson, a sister, Carol Nelson, and a brother, Joe Frank Nelson. Sr.
Surviving relatives include a niece, Hope Nelson Pepe (Robert), McDonough, GA; nephews, Frank Nelson (Kelley), Auburn; and Marc Nelson (Jennifer), Dothan; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
