James E. Evans, 80, of Versailles passed away at 2:15pm, Thursday, January 14, 2021 at his home. He was born in Batesville on June 4, 1940 the son of Ralph and Mabel Keith Evans. He was married to Arlene Hoeferkamp on August 24, 1958 and his wife of 62 years survives. Other survivors include three daughters Marla Luke of Milan, Kim (Vance) Furnish of Greensburg, and Susan (Duane) Webster of South Bend; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one brother Ron (Pam) Evans of Seymour. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Evans was a 1958 graduate of Versailles High School. In his early years Jim worked for Elvan Akers at the Shell station in Versailles. He then worked for 38 years as a dispatcher for the Indiana State Police in Versailles, retiring in 2002. Jim was a member of the Bridge of Hope Church. Jim’s wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 6 at the Bridge of Hope Church with Pastor Doug Norman officiating. Calling for friends will be held an hour prior to the service beginning at 1pm. Memorials may be given to the church’s food pantry, Greves Missionaries, or CEF in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

In compliance with the Governor’s mandate regarding COVID-19, please remember the social distancing guidelines and the wearing of masks inside the funeral home and church. To comply with guidelines, there is a maximum number of 25 people that are allowed into the funeral home at one time. Funeral home staff will be assisting with this so that everyone has a chance to pay their respects in a safe and reverent manner.
