Mr. Donald Millar Macdonald, 96, passed away on January 12, 2021 at The Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 22, 2021, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors, with military honors and Rev. Hugh Ward officiating. A direct burial followed at 2:30 P.M. in Georgia Veterans Memorial Military Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Donald was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey to his parents Thomas Galloway Macdonald and Ivy Ann Millar Macdonald. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Marian Regenthal Macdonald, siblings, Joan and Charles and his daughter, Gayle Alyce Macdonald Wellmann.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Doris Jean Bauerband Smith Macdonald; three sons, Mark, Craig, and Bruce and his two sons Tom, and Paul Macdonald from his first marriage. Don also had 14 grand children and 16 great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Don was employed in the construction industry for almost 40 years with an international designing/building firm. He was a licensed professional engineer and a nationally certified professional planner. Additionally, he served nine years as an elected school board member and several years as a planning board member in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey, while finding time to teach Sunday school, volunteer with the Boy Scouts, Little League, and play duplicate bridge.
He served during WWII in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 until 1945, participating in the 4th Marine Division's invasions of Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. Included in his military awards, are the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal along with four Bronze Service Stars.
